the globally trendsetting house and techno family that is visionquest now turns to a new pairing of sonny fodera & gene farris for their debut ep on the label. entitled ‘we work it’, the two-track affair comes with a remix by visionquest man lee curtiss. australian sonny fodera has been at the sharp end of the dance music scene for years now, clocking up huge hits both solo and with green velvet aka cajmere, releasing albums such as afterparties & aeroplanes and appearing on cajual, defected, suara and many more top labels. gene farris, of course, is a chicago house legend who has been active since the nineties, runs his own farris wheel label and has released close to one hundred definitive eps on relief, soma and many others. up first, ‘we work it’ is a lithe ritual of house funk with bent synths and slick mid tempo drums. a spoken word vocal snippet muses on the intake of various substances and the drums roll on infectiously below. it’s sure to be a standout anthem in the months to come given that vocal line and the spiritualness of the keys all around only adds to the effect. the first remix comes from lee curtiss. this one is a much quicker and more peak time bit of tech house with textured, dynamic bass and plenty of drum fills. it’s an involved, more cosmic and tense take on the original, that will build great pressure on the dance floor. all in all this is another on point package from visionquest that will get played far and wide

2 sleazy, obscure, top shelf chicago basement tracks of the highest order here, dug straight from the trax archives of 1988 & refreshed for 2015! fantasy is a creeping, sinister, rough hewn spoken word banger that has all the things we love about these tunes, dark synths, frenetic drum programming & those lyrics! classic material indeed from short lived production outfit pleasure zone. flip it over for the b-side i cant understand & an instantly familiar vibe jumps out at you, the raw claps, basic melodies & the story of a lover left high & dry recounted over tough jacking rhythms. essential! re-mastered, re-pressed & re-released with the full co-operation & participation of all rights holders.

fans of deep house will need little introduction to fred everything and shur-i-kan, two producers synonomous with the true roots of the genre. as you would expect the resulting collaboration is forward thinking deep house with depth and musicality in abundance. lead track common ground is all about the lead line, a delicate arppegiated melody paired with a chicago-esq bassline. there is also dub working the bassline to full effect. ep closer so leena neatly walks the line beween deep house and melodic techno.

having written the infectious theme song to the chicago party television series, we felt necessary to bring the pianist/composer into the foreground for his own proper two-parter. this very demo of -rush- made it into the hands of charles davis, who re-recorded the tune for a stray single on sutra records in 1982. included on ultra-high frequencies: the chicago party, -you bring me up- is completely unreleased and represents the pinnacle of early 80s r&b from chicago.

otis is a slightly camp and some might say agressive cat from chicago. he has always liked the old acid house. he has only just found the means to put down his musical ideas, and this is his first offering.

we started the classic series featuring tracks that we love, bought, played out and which we have the feeling more people should know about them. for this first edition, it is a great honor for us to welcome such a living legend, a pioneer from the chicago house scene: mr k alexi shelby! at the age of 12 he was already moving in the right circles, befriending frankie knuckles and ron hardy whilst frequenting the famous warehouse. his upbringing in chicago in the 70s and 80s meant that he was exposed to a range of genres and different styles of music including stevie wonder, prince, curtis mayfield and david huff. these same names would prove to be the roots of his influences. this projet includes two classic and timeless moments of chicago house & techno music.
